Alton Byrd

Throughout his life, J. Alton Byrd has been leading and coaching others to reach their full potential.When he attended Riordan High School in San Francisco, California, Byrd captained his high school basketball team to numerous championships. While completing his degree in Urban Studies and Economics at Columbia University, Byrd was captain of the basketball team for three years. In 1979, Byrd was named America's Best Player under 6 feet.

At 23, Byrd completed an international management program with IMS International, a pharmaceutical market research firm in London, England, where he then became the assistant to the executive vice president. At the same time, he played professional basketball for Crystal Palace Basketball Club in London, England and was named Player of the Year consecutively in 1980 and 1981.

At 25, Byrd became the first African-American General Manager of a British sports organization, becoming the business leader of Murray International Metals Sports Organization in Edinburgh, Scotland. While securing sponsorships such as Nike and Renault for the organization, Byrd led Murray International to four British championships, five Scottish championships, and the team's first ever appearance in the second round of the European Champions Basketball Cup.

Successfully mixing business with his love of sports, Byrd left Scotland in May of 1987 to join the world famous Manchester United Sports Organization and played for Manchester United Basketball Club. As captain, Alton led Manchester United to the European Cup Quarterfinals, while also beginning a career as a stockbroker with Ashworth Sons and Barrett, a local Manchester brokerage house. Two years later, Byrd joined Svenska and Company in London to become an equities trader. At the same time he joined the Kingston Basketball Club as both player and general manager for five years.

In 1989, Byrd created his own sports marketing company, Alton Byrd Associates, a sports marketing firm, specializing in transitioning American companies into the United Kingdom (UK). In the following 11 years, Alton Byrd Associates would become one of the leading marketing firms in the UK.

Additionally, Byrd managed a successful media career, spending 18 years working for various media networks in the UK, including the BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports. From 1993 through 1998, he hosted one of Britain's top radio shows, "SportsAmerica." Byrd also hosted top sports entertainment shows in the UK including "NBA Jam Session" and "This Week in the World League of American Football."

In 1997, Byrd joined the NFL as General Manager of the Europe League's London Monarchs. He also helped to transition the franchise to Berlin, where he then became Commercial Director of NFL-UK, closing the largest partnership in NFL-UK history with Coors Brewing.

In 1999, Byrd was recruited by Maloof Sports and Entertainment to become Vice President of Strategic Alliances for The Sacramento Kings (NBA), Monarchs (WNBA), Knights (WISL), and the Gold Rush Senior PGA Golf Classic. As a key member of the senior strategy team, Byrd was instrumental in closing the largest sponsorship deal in Sacramento Kings and Monarchs history with Cingular Wireless and Ralph's Supermarkets, respectively. Additionally, he helped improve staff standards, while building a new sponsorship and services team for each division of Maloof Sports.

Today, Byrd is the Founder and CEO of the Clear Focus Companies. He coaches senior executives, entrepreneurs, and sports marketing executives achieve their goals by utilizing his extensive background to provide objective input and structured guidance to enhance any chosen career field or lifestyle change.
